Eileen Francis was chosen as Sparta?s 2010 Outstanding Older American by the Sparta Town Council in July. She was chosen for her attitude and her community and civic involvement. This includes being vice president of the Tuesday Sparta Senior Club, co-chair of the Senior Advisory Committee and single-handedly creating a senior discount directory for Sparta. She?s a member of Blessed Kateri Parish where she serves in the Stephen Ministry and a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteers for the senior van phone line. Eileen competes every year in the Sparta Senior Olympics where she has won the spirit award. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter Carol, son-in-law Tom and grandchildren Ted and Eileen.

Robert Piper, a student at Willow Tree Dance Academy in Sparta, had a year full of high achievements with his tap dancing. He gained high achievements with four platinum awards, a third place overall award at Encore DCS, first place overall award at Star Systems Regional Competition in Sparta, and a first place National Grand Champion Award at Star Systems National Competition in Myrtle Beach. He was also awarded the ?Potential? Judges Award at the Onstage New York Regional?s Competition. Most recently, Robert was given the Tap City Outstanding Youth Award by the American Tap Dance Foundation, and he also won first place at the Hamburg Talent Show for his tap solo ?Language of Rhythm? choreographed by instructor Michelle Paradise.
